Texans BREAKING: DE Derek Rivers OUT with Torn Biceps; Houston Live Game Blog

Follow along as we keep you up to date on Thursday night's preseason matchup between the Houston Texans and the San Francisco 49ers.

It's prime time for the Houston Texans on Thursday night as they play host to Kyle Shanahan's San Francisco 49ers at NRG Stadium.

All the game details are below, but here's a piece of postgame breaking news: Texans veteran defensive end Derek Rivers has been diagnosed with torn biceps. He's expected to now miss months after a camp in which he was competing well for a spot.

Now to the game review ...

Lovie Smith's Texans are expected to suit up the starters on both sides of the ball with just wide receiver Brandin Cooks, left tackle Laremy Tunsil and center Justin Britt set to miss out.

First-round rookie Kenyon Green will get his first reps in a Texans uniform, while fellow first-rounder cornerback Derek Stingley Jr., who impressed in his brief appearance last week against the Los Angeles Rams, will get another chance to show he's well and truly back from his injury-plagued final year at LSU.

After being left out of the Rams game, it was widely believed that rookie running back Dameon Pierce had all but sealed the starting role -- something which could be confirmed against San Francisco.

Two veterans who have yet to see the field for Houston, defensive ends Jerry Hughes and Mario Addison, are also in contention to play. In theory, their presence should give the Texans a veteran pass-rushing threat opposite Jonathan Greenard to help unlock the best in the third-year defender.

Check back below for running commentary throughout the game.
