Owners Cal, Hannah McNair Back Houston Texans' 'Win Now' Approach to Offseason

If there was any doubt about how ownership feels about the Houston Texans feel about the direction of the team, it has been erased.

Few, if any, teams have had a more exciting offseason than the Houston Texans. Call them reckless for sending draft capital for a disgruntled receiver coming off the worst stretch of his career or wasteful for trading for a running back whose former team would let walk, but this roster is much improved.

Rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud's ascension accelerated Houston’s rebuild, sending a message to general manager Nick Caserio – along with ownership – that the Texans are ready to compete.

Caserio responded by making three of the biggest veteran moves this offseason and has laid the foundation for the team to go in several directions during the second and third days of the NFL Draft.

Unsurprisingly, ownership is on board with the aggressive offseason, even if it comes with the risk of faulty contracts and the burden of expectations.

In an interview with KRPC, owner Cal McNair and his wife, Hannah, spoke about their excitement and expectations for the coming season.

“We embrace the expectations, it’s where we want to be,” Cal McNair said. “At (the) same time, it’s about building the team, working hard. It’s the day-to-day things that will get us where we want to get to.”

That, of course, means winning consecutive AFC South titles and chasing down the Kansas City Chiefs. It’s a tough task, but given the infrastructure Houston has in place, it’s not out of the question.

Caserio has proved his doubters wrong, and in the process, acquired the keys to sustainable winning – Stroud and head coach DeMeco Ryans. With those pieces in place, the Texans figure to be competent year in and year out. Houston, though, has taken the next step, rolling the dice on veterans with the capacity to add upside to an already talented roster.

Building for both today and tomorrow is generally the goal, but Hannah McNair may have put it best.

“We want to win now!”
