Drive Chart: Here's What The Titans Offense Did on Every Possession Friday vs. Patriots

The Tennessee Titans capped off their 2023 preseason with a win against the New England Patriots. Here is a drive-by-drive recap of everything that happened on offense.

The Tennessee Titans finished their preseason on Friday night. They defeated the New England Patriots by a score of 23-7. Here is a recap of what happened on every offensive drive of the night.

Drive No. 1

  • Game status: 15:00 to go in the first quarter
  • Quarterback: Ryan Tannehill
  • Plays/Yards: 3 plays, -2 yards
  • Result: Punt
  • SMH Moment: The Titans took a delay of game on 3rd & 8. 
  • The Skinny: The Titans didn't get anything going on two consecutive run plays to start the drive and after a penalty on third down, they gave up with another run.

Drive No. 2

  • Game status:  11:09 to go in the first quarter
  • Quarterback: Malik Willis
  • Plays/Yards: 7 plays, 51 yards
  • Result: 44-yard Field Goal
  • Key Play: Malik Willis took a shot to Chris Moore that drew a penalty and got the Titans 32 yards on third down
  • The Skinny: A generally sloppy drive aided by a big penalty. The Titans first-team offensive line is got bullied by the Patriots.

Drive No. 3

  • Game status: 7:32 to go in the first quarter
  • Quarterback: Malik Willis
  • Plays/Yards: 4 plays, -4 yards
  • Result: 27-yard Field Goal
  • SMH Moment: The Titans got the ball on the five-yard line and immediately took a four-yard loss on a run play.
  • The Skinny: The Titans' offense has been embarrassing. Another drive where yards were lost. They cannot run on the Patriots second-team defense and only get three yards after getting the ball on the five-yard line.

Drive No. 4

  • Game status: 1:55 to go in the first quarter
  • Quarterback: Malik Willis
  • Plays/Yards: 4 plays, 24 yards
  • Result: Interception
  • SMH Moment: Malik Willis threw a ball off target to tight end Josh Whyle and it was intercepted.
  • Key Play: Tyjae Spears showcased another brutal stiff arm on a 19-yard scamper.
  • The Skinny: The Titans' offensive line finally got some movement in the run game against lesser Patriots defenders, but Willis inaccuracy causes a turnover.

Drive No. 5

  • Game status:  13:16 to go in the second quarter
  • Quarterback: Malik Willis
  • Plays/Yards: 10 plays, 54 yards
  • Result: 39-yard Missed Field Goal
  • SMH Moment: Titans kicker woes continue as Badgley misses the field goal
  • Key Play: Julius Chestnut made some nice cuts for a 23-yard gain.
  • The Skinny: The Titans got some better movement upfront and Willis completed some passes, but a sack on third down ended the drive.

Drive No. 6

  • Game status: 5:34 to go in the second quarter
  • Quarterback: Malik Willis
  • Plays/Yards: 10 plays, 90 yards
  • Result: Touchdown
  • Key Play: Willis connected with Colten Dowell over the middle for a 30-yard gain.
  • The Skinny: Willis had has best drive of the preseason with a big completion to Dowell and then back-to-back mobile plays where Willis found Chestnut, the second of which was a touchdown.

Drive No. 7

  • Game status: 11:39 to go in the third quarter
  • Quarterback: Malik Willis
  • Plays/Yards: 8 plays, 46 yards
  • Result: Interception
  • SMH Moment: Willis threw his second interception of the game on a bad throw over the middle.
  • The Skinny: Willis had been on fire, but threw an awful pick after a good drive.

Drive No. 8

  • Game status: 4:31 to go in the third quarter
  • Quarterback: Malik Willis
  • Plays/Yards: 10 plays, 83 yards
  • Result: Touchdown
  • Key Play: Willis scrambled to his right and found Kearis Jackson for a 26-yard touchdown.
  • The Skinny: Willis recovered after his last interception and made good throws down the field, punctuating the drive with a scoring throw.

Drive No. 9

  • Game status: 11:45 to go in the fourth quarter
  • Quarterback: Mason Kinsey then Malik Willis
  • Plays/Yards: 4 plays, 20 yards
  • Result: Punt
  • Key Play: Jacques Patrick was stopped on a one-yard run forcing a punt.
  • The Skinny: Titans tried to get a short first down on a third-down run, but Mike Vrabel probably hoped he got a chance to practice the punt.

Drive No. 10

  • Game status: 6:47 to go in the fourth quarter
  • Quarterback: Malik Willis
  • Plays/Yards: 6 plays, 25 yards
  • Result: 33-yard Field Goal
  • Key Play: Patrick had a nice run for 21 yards to the left side
  • The Skinny: Titans again tried to convert a short third-down opportunity, but were unable and settled for the field goal. I think Vrabel preferred that anyways.

Drive No. 11

  • Game status:  1:46 to go in the fourth quarter
  • Quarterback: Malik Willis
  • Plays/Yards: 3 plays, -3 yards
  • Result: End of Game
  • The Skinny: Victory formation, 3 kneel downs, Titans win.
