NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans completed the most important task of their offseason when they got a new deal done with all-pro defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons on Friday. Turron Davenport of ESPN was the first to report the news, but since the initial information came out we have learned even more about the financial details.

According to new information from Davenport, the Titans will be giving Simmons a four-year deal worth $94 million. That is a yearly average of $23.5 million per season, making Simmons the second-highest paid interior defensive lineman in the NFL behind all-time great Aaron Donald.

Simmons will also get a huge guaranteed amount coming in at $66 million in total with $24 million in signing bonus money. $66 million guaranteed is the second highest at the position in the entire NFL and is just one million less than Donald’s most recent deal. A huge haul for Simmons and an amount he deserves after making second-team all pro two seasons in a row.

The timing of this deal was huge for the Titans. Talented interior defensive linemen like Quinnen Williams and Dexter Lawrence are also set to get paid this offseason and the Titans’ negotiations with Simmons would have certainly been impacted by the outcome of those players’ contract talks. A big win for Titans’ new general manager Ran Carthon to get this deal done before any others at Simmons’ position got their new contracts.

Simmons contract beats out Da’Ron Payne of the Washington Commanders who also signed a new deal this offseason. Payne got a four-year deal worth $90 million and $59 million guaranteed. Again, highlighting the importance of the timing of Simmons’ deal.

With Simmons finally in tow, the Titans can move past their most important item of the offseason and properly prepare for the NFL draft coming later this month. Simmons will be a Titan for the foreseeable future and that is good news for everyone from the fans to Jeff himself to the other players and the front office.
