Tennessee Titans Begin Cutdown Day by Waiving WR Racey McMath

The Tennessee Titans must trim their roster down to 53 players by Tuesday afternoon and the cuts have started rolling in with receiver Racey McMath as the day's first move.

The Tennessee Titans' roster trim began on Sunday with six cuts. It continued on Monday with multiple roster moves. However, the major cutdown will come on Tuesday and we have seen it begin with a pair of cuts that included receiver Racey McMath.

The Titans waived McMath and recently-signed running back Jacques Patrick. McMath's cut was reported by Jordan Schultz while Justin Melo reported the Patrick news.

McMath is the bigger cut here. He is a former sixth-round draft pick in 2021 out of LSU and has his share of supporters in the fan base, but McMath never put it all together and dealt with injuries throughout his Titans tenure.

McMath only played in 14 games while making 14 catches for 48 yards. McMath had tons of physical potential at 6-foot-3, 217 pounds with great speed, but the skill-based aspects of the position never were there.

McMath struggled with route running and ball control. With some of the young receivers the Titans added in recent years like rookies Tre'Shaun Harrison and Kearis Jackson and a second-year player like Reggie Roberson Jr, McMath was fighting an uphill battle to make the roster.

The Titans could bring McMath back on the practice squad, but at this point it may make more sense to go with some of the younger options mentioned above. Even fellow third-year receiver Mason Kinsey represents a better value on practice squad because of his ability to play some defensive back on scout team.

As for Patrick, the reality was he was brought in as a "camp body" who could take carries and reps while the Titans' other running backs like Hassan Haskins and Jonathan Ward were hurt. He was never long for the roster.

The cuts will continue throughout the day as the Titans set their 53-man squad. Stay tuned to AllTitans.com for updates.
