NASHVILLE - The Tennessee Titans and general manager Ran Carthon aren't finished attempting to improve their roster, as on Wednesday, a report surfaced that former New York Jets tackle George Fant will visit the Titans on Saturday for a workout.

Fant's workout comes on the same day the Titans rookies report for their opening of training camp and three days ahead of the team's veterans reporting on July 25.

The move to workout Fant comes on the heels of the six-game suspension of Nicholas Petite-Frere for violating the league's gambling policy.

While the Titans roster has been solid since before the beginning of the team's OTAs and minicamp, Carthon has been quiet;y working behind the scenes.

On Sunday, news broke that DeAndre Hopkins would sign with the Titans after Carthon and head coach Mike Vrabel worked to secure the three-time Pro-Bowl wideout and immediately improve his receiver room.

Now Fant is set to visit, and he could potentially fill the void the Titans face during Petite-Frere's suspension.

At the same time, should Fant play well, he could either remain as a starter, moving Petite-Frere to a valuable backup role or move Fant into that position.

Jamarco Jones and Jaelyn Duncan are the easiest answers to fill in during the suspension. Rookie Peter Skoronski could also be placed at right tackle temporarily, though that would mean the coaching staff would have to find a replacement at left guard.

However, potentially adding a veteran in Fant would allow the Titans to replace one missing starter with one replacement with extensive experience, as opposed to either Jones or Duncan, who have little, and no current game experience.

Either way, Carthon deserves acknowledgment for addressing needs and finding potential roster improvements ahead of the coming season.

Yes, it's his job, and he seems to be doing it pretty well so far.
