NASHVILLE - When it comes to the starting spots for the Tennessee Titans at safety in 2023, there's no question or even discussion needed. However, there is a big question about who might be backing up those starters.

THE PLAYERS

Kevin Byard, Amani Hooker, Tyreque Jones, Matthew Jackson, Mike Brown, Elijah Molden

THE STARTERS

Kevin Byard: The veteran All-Pro is the man on the back end and one of the best on the defense and the entire team.

Amani Hooker: Byards running mate for most of the last five seasons, will be beside his partner again to give the Titans a solid back end.

THE BACKUPS

Mike Brown: As it stands, Brown is the most experienced of the rest as a safety, and right now seems like a lock, though the Titans could find others once cuts begin.

Elijah Molden: I feel that Molden, a versatile player, will continue to get work here and could be the fourth safety unless one of the two rookie undrafted players steps forward or someone else is added.

PRACTICE SQUAD

Tyreque Jones: The Boise State standout had a draftable grade but fell to the Titans as an undrafted free agent. There seems to be some ability there, but he has a long way to go to earn a roster spot,t but the practice squad seems very likely.

Matthew Jackson: Another small school undrafted rookie, Jackson is likely playing for a place on the practice squad.

CONCLUSION

Having Molden is a blessing because he can step back and play safety in a pinch, and the Titans could find themselves in one. At the same time, the Titans may be in the market for help here.

  • FOR THE TITANS, FIXING ONE OFFENSIVE LINE SPOT SHOULDN'T IMPACT THREE OTHERS: The Titans must find a way to replace Nicholas Petite-Frere during his six-game suspension to begin the season. Doing it shouldn't impact three positions. CLICK HERE
