The New York Jets selected WR Denzel Mims with the No. 59 overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft. A gifted athlete, Mims played football, basketball and ran track at Daingerfield High School in Texas. Mims was a wide receiver on offense and safety on defense for the Tigers. Versatile on offense, Mims hauled in 31 catches for 721 yards and 10 TD plus 256 rushing yards and five TD on the ground during his high school career.

Giving his quarterback a big target, Mims (6-foot-3, 215 pounds) racked up 2,925 receiving yards and 28 touchdowns during four seasons with the Baylor Bears. Mims boosted his draft stock with impressive performances at the Senior Bowl and during the NFL Scouting Combine. Noting Mims had shot up everyone's radar with impressive run blocking ability, Mims also has solid route-running skills.

Mims showed well during the 2020 NFL Scouting Combine as he ran a 4.38 in the 40-yard dash, which was tied for the third-fastest time by a wide receiver. A fearless ball hawk, especially in the middle of the field, Mims often soars above defenders and isn’t afraid to take crushing hits after the catch. His size and length (33 7/8-inch arms) give him a wide catch radius and he has a skill set to catch most balls thrown in his vicinity. Mims has the potential to be a consistent red-zone target in the NFL.

Here’s why SI’s Kevin Hanson ranked Mims as the No. 35 overall player on his big board:

Few players, if any, have helped their draft stock more than Mims during the pre-draft process. After an outstanding week at the Senior Bowl, Mims ran a sub-4.4 in the 40 with a position-best 6.66 in the three-cone drill at the combine. Per PFF stats, the 207-pound wideout led the nation with 20 contested catches.

2019 stats (Senior; Baylor): 1,020 receiving yards, 12 touchdowns (13 games)

2018 stats (Junior; Baylor): 794 receiving yards, 8 touchdowns (12 games)

2017 stats (Sophomore; Baylor): 1,087 receiving yards, 8 touchdowns (12 games)

2016 stats (Freshman; Baylor): 24 receiving yards (3 games)
