SI.com's Team Canada 1 roster for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey
Off The Draw: Making hockey's World Cup a hot ticket; games to watch
What might Team Canada look like if the World Cup of Hockey is realized in 2016? Probably not considerably different from the club that dominated the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. Our proposed 23-man roster (smaller than the 25-man squad that was allowed in Sochi) would see 10 forwards, five defensemen and two goaltenders return to wear the maple leaf. Newcomers include 2014 Hart Trophy finalist Claude Giroux, 2013 top draft pick Nathan MacKinnon, and Steven Stamkos (who missed the last Games with a broken leg) up front, Mark Giordano and Aaron Ekblad on the back end, and Jonathan Bernier as the No. 3 keeper. It's a squad that has untouchable depth down the middle, size and speed on the wings, and a strong transition group manning the blue line.
