After Clint Dempsey struck early to give the U.S. a lead, Gyasi Zardes put the Americans up 2-0 against Cuba with a 15th-minute goal in the CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinals en route to a 6-0 rout.

Fabian Johnson took the ball on the left side and lofted a soft cross over the Cuban back line as Zardes slipped behind the defense, accelerated and beat Cuban keeper Diosvelis Guerra from the edge of the six-yard box with a controlled, right-footed low volley. The United States' aggressive aerial attack paid dividends for the second time in the match after Dempsey's fourth-minute header.

The tally was the second international goal for the 23-year-old L.A. Galaxy striker, who notched his first score against the Netherlands in a June friendly.

Zardes's goal was followed by one from Aron Johannsson, one from club teammate Omar Gonzalez and two more from Dempsey as the USA reached the semifinals with ease.
