After retaining their Champions League crown by virtue of a penalty shootout victory over Arsenal, PSG are out to keep hold of the Super Cup in Salzburg on Wednesday. Luis Enrique’s side scraped past Tottenham Hotspur in a shootout last year, and meet another Premier League opponent this time around.

Villa gave the Parisians an almighty scare during PSG’s run to their first Champions League trophy in 2025. Unai Emery’s Villans fought back from a 5–1 aggregate deficit at Villa Park by scoring three unanswered goals, but were defied by Gianluigi Donnarumma in their bid to score an equalizer.

Villa enter this match as the Europa League holders, having eased past Freiburg 3–0 in this year’s final.

An extended World Cup means neither team has prepared optimally, with both managers only just welcoming back the last of those who enjoyed post-tournament breaks.

What’s Next for PSG, Aston Villa?

There’s more silverware on the line for PSG before their Ligue 1 title defense gets underway against Rennes on Aug. 23. Enrique’s side takes on Lens in the Trophée des Champions on Sunday.

Aston Villa, meanwhile, have one more preseason outing before the start of the Premier League season. The Villans travel across the border and into Germany for a friendly against Borussia Mönchengladbach at the weekend.

Villa’s league season kicks off against Brighton & Hove Albion the following Sunday.
