A match between these two rivals is never really a friendly.

One of English soccer’s most historic rivalries, with roots stretching back to the Wars of the Roses, resumes Wednesday as Manchester United and Leeds United meet in a preseason friendly at Croke Park in Dublin.

United enter as the favorites after finishing third in the Premier League last season, while Leeds spent much of the campaign battling near the bottom of the table.

History backs the Red Devils, too. Across 115 meetings, United have won 50, Leeds 27 and 38 have ended in draws. United have also won five of their last 10 encounters.

Recent form, however, makes this harder to call. Leeds won the most recent meeting 2–1 in April and have beaten Sunderland, Liverpool and RB Leipzig this preseason, while also losing to Wrexham.

United have beaten Atlético Madrid, drawn with Paris Saint-Germain and lost to Wrexham, offering little clarity ahead of Wednesday’s clash.
