Pinging The Portal: Cincinnati Interested in Big Ten Transfer Forward Lathan Sommerville

CINCINNATI — The Bearcats reached out to their first big man in the transfer portal on Wednesday. We start this Pinging The Portal with On3's Joe Tipton reporting interest in Rutgers forward Lathan Sommerville.

The 6-10, 275-pound freshman averaged 8.2 points and 4.1 rebounds last season on 50.1% shooting. He started 15 out of 32 games played and is the first big man Cincinnati has reached out to so far this week.

Sommerville won't offer much as a stretch forward (1-9 on threes last season) but could be a massive impact player on the glass.

He's also heard from schools like Michigan, Ohio State, and Tennessee. The Illinois native entered the portal with a do-not-contact tag and has three years of eligibility left.

Cincinnati also may have interest in veteran UCF guard Jaylin Sellers as a transfer option. No reports have surfaced of contact, but UC head coach Wes Miller is now following him on Instagram after Sellers entered the portal.

The senior has one season of eligibility left after playing in three games last season due to injury. Sellers averaged 15.9 points and 2.6 rebounds during the 2023-24 season at UCF. He's spent half his career there and the other half at Ball State.

The 6-4, 205-pound guard is a career 37.3% shooter from deep on 3.6 attempts per game and posted 4.6 free throw attempts per game in 2023-24.
