Geraldo Perdomo Back in Diamondbacks' Lineup After Injury Concern

An encouraging re-emergence.

Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Geraldo Perdomo did not play in Tuesday night's loss to the Colorado Rockies, after he was lifted early one game prior.

On Monday night, it was revealed that Perdomo had been removed due to left knee soreness. As concerning as it might have been to see the franchise shortstop have an injury concern, manager Torey Lovullo was optimistic about it, and gave Perdomo a "fifty-fifty" chance to play Tuesday.

"Perdomo is okay. He had a little bit of left knee soreness," Lovullo said after Monday's removal. "I just felt like I could get him off of the field and start to maneuver with some other players. ... We know we have an off day on Thursday, but he should be fine."

Though Perdomo did not play Tuesday, there was no indication that his injury had taken a turn for the worse. And now, he's back in the lineup for a somewhat critical game three finale at Chase Field.

Let's take a ook at the batting order for Wednesday afternoon's finale:

1. SS Geraldo Perdomo
2. RF Corbin Carrol
3. C Gabriel Moreno
4. 2B Ketel Marte
5. DH Lars Nootbaar
6. 3B Nolan Arenado
7. LF Max Kepler
8. 1B Tim Tawa
9. CF Ryan Waldschmidt

Perdomo's return is the most notable aspect. The switch-hitting shortstop has been hot lately, though his overall season numbers have not quite lived up to the elite 2025 season he just had.

Perdomo is hitting to the tune of a .244/.359/.374 slash line and a .733 OPS, a far cry from his seven-WAR worthy season last year. But he's played excellent, much-improved defense at shortstop, and remains one of the more valuable members of Arizona's roster.

In Perdomo's absence, veteran utilityman Ildemaro Vargas took over at shortstop, and performed admirably enough. Still, it's good to get Perdomo back in the order. The Diamondbacks are going to need both his bat and his glove down the stretch if they want to have a shot at making the Postseason.

Meanwhile, both Ketel Marte asnd Corbin Carroll homered in Tuesday's game. Those two star-level bats have been quiet of late; Arizona needs them to compound some of that momentum into a resurgence, regardless of how much production they've received from the lower half of the order in recent days.

The Diamondbacks will need to find a way to win Wednesday or risk losing the series to the Rockies. Arizona would like to avoid a letdown from their high-intensity series win over the Dodgers.
