It’s time for the Cleveland Guardians to get back on track and this weekend is perfect for them to do it. The Guardians will take on the St. Louis Cardinals starting Friday night at Progressive Field.

Cleveland has not played well in inter-league play up to this point of the season. They own a record it 4-8 against National League opponents. The Guardians have also won just two of their last 11 series across all MLB teams highlighting their struggles as of late.

Their series against the Cardinals could be an excellent opportunity to change both fortunes.

St. Louis has had one of their worst starts in franchise history and made it even more alarming with their public handling of top free agent signing Wilson Contreras following the slow start.

Whether Contreras has been the issue, the starting pitching hasn’t been great. St. Louis holds a team starter ERA of 5.01 which is bottom 10 in MLB. Their relievers have an ERA of 3.82.

The Guardians on the other hand have arguably the worst offense in baseball, so something has to give. If Cleveland is going to break through and get the bats back on track, it’s this weekend.

The probable pitching matchups for the series are:

Friday, May 26

  • Shane Bieber (3.08) Vs. Matthew Liberatore (3.00)

Saturday, May 27

  • Tanner Bibee (3.18) Vs. Jack Flaherty (5.29)

Sunday, May 28

  • Hunter Gaddis (5.26) Vs. Jordan Montgomery (2-6, 4.55)

Let's hope fans come out of the week hopeful and optimistic about how the rest of the season is going to go!
