In this story:

After being designated for assignment by the San Diego Padres last week, Tyler Wade has cleared waivers and been outrighted to Triple-A El Paso.

Even after announcing that Wade would be DFA'd, president of baseball operations A.J. Preller said that he hoped the utility man would stay in the organization.

That is officially the case as Wade is on his way to El Paso.

The utility man wasn't just a fan favorite, but a clubhouse favorite. Manager Mike Shildt spoke highly on what he does for a team off the diamond.

“I don’t think you can quantify what a Tyler Wade means to a team,” said Shildt after an extra-innings win last September. “When you have players like Wade, it is hard for the industry to understandably quantify their value. But his value to our ballclub is high on a lot of levels. He is able to stay sharp when we have a lot of regulars we ride with consistently. But he stays sharp so when he gets his moment he is ready to take a good at-bat or be able to make a contributing play on the bases or defensively like he did last night."

The immeasurable impact of Wade will now be felt in Triple-A, but knowing that he is waiting in the wings to come back to Petco Park is much more comforting than him being with another team's organization.

Wade revealed last June that as much as he wants to play in the big leagues, he has an ultimate goal that comes at the end of October and is doing whatever it takes to get there.

“You want to play every day in the big leagues, and that’s still my goal,” Wade said. “But the way our team is constructed, my ultimate goal is to win a World Series. So if I need to play once every three weeks, whatever it may be, and we can get to the promised land, that’s all it’s about.”

Perhaps Wade has a feeling that his best course of action to win a World Series is to stay in San Diego, even if that means being in El Paso for now.
