The San Diego Padres have recalled a pitcher from Triple-A before their series finale with the Atlanta Braves. The team announced the move on social media.

San Diego is recalling right-hander Omar Cruz from Triple-A, while optioning right-hander Alek Jacob to El Paso.

Cruz has appeared in two games for the Padres this season, posting an ERA of 4.91 in 3.2 innings of work. The right-hander has struck out five batters during that time and will now be looking to make a direct impact on the Padres' pitching staff.

Jacob has struggled this year with the Padres, and the team likely wants to have him spend time in Triple-A to get rights right. For the year, he has posted an ERA of 6.94 over 22 games played. The right-handed pitcher has seen 23.1 innings of work, striking out 18 batters during that period.

San Diego has split the series with the Braves so far and will be looking to take the rubber match here today. The Padres have struggled a bit of late, dropping seven of their past eight games overall.

But as they head into the finale with the Braves, the Padres have a strong confidence to them.

“We’ve been shaking off the feeling of the heaviness, and I think fairly well,” manager Mike Shildt said. “We keep going, keep going, keep going. You want to see some breakthrough and get some breaks and make your own. We’ve broken through. And now it’s time to get back to the good side of (win) column.”

Despite the recent struggles, the Padres still own a record of 28-22 for the year. San Diego had been very strong before this losing streak, and the team is now looking to get back to their winning ways.
