Spencer Torkelson's Slump Major Factor to Tigers Fall in Playoff Race

The Detroit Tigers are falling further and further back of the American League wild card playoff race as they recently got swept by the Kansas City Royals on Sunday.
One of the major reasons why the Tigers keep losing is because their first baseman seems lost at the plate.
Manager AJ Hinch might want to get Spencer Torkelson a day off soon as the first baseman is 0-for-21 at the plate through Sunday. That slump is not helping the offense when guys like Kevin McGonigle and Hao Yu-Lee are having a good day but are not being picked up by other parts of the lineup.
Torkelson is a guy that the Tigers usually like to rely on for offense but as of late, he has been a dud when he comes up to bat. The Tigers in general have been slumping but Torkelson has taken that to a new level recently.
Hinch and crew have to hope that he turns it around real soon because for the time being, Torkelson is part of the Tigers future at first base. He is going to be a big part of the team when they truly contend and become a team destined for a World Series.
Tigers Need Torkelson Down Stretch
When a player slumps and does not look good in his at bats, it is no secret that they want to break out of it real soon. The same can be said for Torkelson, a player that was a huge help to last year's Tigers team that came one win away from an ALCS appearance.
The Tigers offense has been going through McGonigle and others all season long and Torkelson was helping out not too long ago. But this recent stretch for him is just a funk and he is going to end up snapping out of it before season's end.
Torkelson knows that he is a good player and he knows what he is capable of whenever he comes up to the plate. He is a huge part of this Tigers team and not just anybody can man first base like he can.
McGonigle and others are going to need him as the season winds down and the calendar soon hits September. Torkelson is a good player and he knows it and this slump is just a small stretch of bad baseball and he will end up figuring it out to help out his offense the way he knows how.
