Lakers' Luka Doncic Makes Massive Announcement After Signing LA Extension

The Los Angeles Lakers have secured superstar Luka Doncic for at least three more seasons. The five-time NBA All-Star reportedly agreed to a three-year, $165 million maximum contract extension that includes a player option for 2028, per ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Doncic expressed his gratitude for the Lakers franchise and fanbase after signing the extension in an X post on Saturday morning.
“I just signed my extension with the Lakers. Excited to keep working to bring championships to LA and make Laker Nation proud. Grateful to the Lakers, my teammates and all the fans who’ve shown so much love since day one. This is just the beginning,” Doncic wrote on X.

Doncic also revealed that he will be donating $5 million of his contract extension to 77 athletes around the world.
“Today I’m also committing $5 million to help 77 young athletes [tying in to his No. 77 jersey] around the world chase their dreams, just like I did. Basketball gave me everything, and I’m lucky to be able to give back and help the next generation,” Doncic wrote.

The 26-year-old has gained a reputation for his involvement in philanthropy all around the world. He donated $500,000 to help those affected by the wildfires in Los Angeles and recently donated $50 million to aid search and rescue operations for the victims of the Texas flash floods in July.

Doncic also created the Luka Doncic Foundation in December to promote a positive and supportive environment for children to learn how to play basketball and donated $5,000 to restore a vandalized mural of Kobe Bryant and Gianna Bryant.
Doncic has quickly emerged as a fan favorite in Los Angeles since joing the team in February, and his efforts to help the local community has only amplified the love he receives from the Lakers' fanbase.
In addition to his philanthropic efforts, Doncic's determination to win an NBA championship with the Lakers has excited the Los Angeles fanbase.
Doncic has never won an NBA championship and said in a recent "Insider's Look" interview on July 19 that he that he wants to be “the guy that brought championships to the city, for sure.”
The Lakers won the NBA championship most recently in 2020 but have struggled in the playoffs ever since. But with the help of their new superstar, the Lakers are hopeful they will bring a title back to Los Angeles in the near future.
