The Dallas Mavericks have made another trade ahead of Thursday's deadline, though this one isn't nearly as significant as the one they made over the weekend, sending Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis.

Per ESPN's Shams Charania, the Dallas Mavericks are sending Quentin Grimes and a 2025 second-round pick (owned by the 76ers) to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for Caleb Martin. The 76ers and Mavericks actually play on Tuesday night in Philly, so neither player will have to travel very far to reach their new destinations.

The decision to trade Grimes could come as a surprise to some Mavs fans, as he's averaged 10.2 PPG and 3.8 RPG while shooting 39.8% from three-point range, performing even better than that in his 12 starts. He's also been one of the better defenders in the NBA this season. Grimes is in the last year of his contract, as he and the Mavs couldn't come to terms on an extension this summer.

Martin is averaging 9.1 PPG, 4.4 RPG, and 2.2 APG in a mostly starting role for the 76ers this season. He broke out as a key two-way player with the Miami Heat, having a few 20-point games in the Heat's Eastern Conference Finals run in 2023. He is in the first year of a four-year, $35 million deal that he signed this offseason, so the longer control of his contract was likely more attractive to Nico Harrison and the Mavericks.
