NBA Legend Shares Wild Steph Curry Take

During a recent interview with Joy De'Angela, NBA legend Julius Erving was asked for his top-10 NBA players of all-time. His list was certainly controversial, as it contained no current NBA players, which of course led to some glaring omissions. When asked if Steph Curry belongs on this list, Erving adamantly said, "Oh no. He hasn't even played long enough."

While part of Erving's criteria was having a completed career, the final player he included on his list was Tiny Archibald, who played fewer career games than Curry already has. While everybody's criteria for an all-time list will be different, leaving out players like Curry and even LeBron James, who have played more games than some retired greats, feels inconsistent.

Erving's take was understandably controversial, but there are also personal factors that can play into lists like these. Players from Erving's day often see the difference in eras as something that should factor into all-time discussions. The same is often argued on the other side, from those who believe the modern era is more difficult.

Erving acknowledged that people always hate him when he gives his all-time list, but it's one he believes in. The conversation is subjective to an extent, with different people valuing different qualities. It will be interesting to see where Erving places Curry after the Golden State Warriors star retires.
