Why Teams Are Hoping The Wizards Continue To Struggle

Why Other Teams In The NBA Are Hoping The Wizards Continue To Struggle This Season

The Washington Wizards are currently second to last in the Eastern Conference at 3-16. They are tied with the San Antonio Spurs for the second worst record in the entire league. The only team that is in a worst place then them is the Detroit Pistons who do own the worst record in the entire league at 2-18. These are teams who don’t have a shot at the real prize, the NBA Finals. However, they failed to even be competitive in the NBA In Season Tournament as well. The Wizards are on the outside looking in for the In Season Tournament and have hopes of changing that next season.

However, the teams that are in the In Season Tournament or even the playoff race are always looking to improve by adding to their roster via trade. When you look at the Detroit Pistons, the players there may not interest you very much. Taking a look at the San Antonio Spurs, you know they aren’t looking to sell any of their players simply because they have a franchise player in Victor Wembamyama and they have to surround him with quality talent. Although they are losing, the Spurs will probably keep their core together.

The Wizards however, are in a different situation. The Wizards situation may be of benefit to the entire league. While the Wizards don’t have a franchise center piece like Victor Wembamyama, they do have a ton of players who can help teams win immediately. The team has not experienced the success they expected to experience thus far this season and that may open the flood gates for them to have a flash sale sometime this season.

If the Wizards continue to struggle, they more than likely will make some form of a deal. The deal would probably be for a high lottery draft pick if possible. Any draft capital is good. But if they can land a lottery pick, that would be even better. Teams around the league expect other teams that are struggling to trade away assets to gain other assets that are better for them both in the present and future.

Teams like the LA Lakers, Boston Celtics, Milwaukee Bucks, Denver Nuggets, Miami Heat, Golden Stats Warriors, Phoenix Suns, and Philadelphia 76ers have one thing in mind - winning a NBA Championship. Unlike the Pistons, the Wizards have a ton of valuable assets in players that are worth trading for. The whole team qualifies for that, however guys like Danilo Gallinari, Tyus Jones, Landry Shamet, Deni Avdija, Corey Kispert, and even Jordan Poole may all become available at the right price. Kyle Kuzma may even join that list if it means a number one overall draft pick. Teams in the NBA are praying for the Wizards downfall so they can acquire talented players to join their teams as they hope for a championship run this summer.
