Wizards Should Monitor Situation Of This All Star Point Guard

In this story:
Over the last couple of years, the Washington Wizards have been in dire need of an elite point guard. Sure, John Wall was the perfect guy for this franchise while he was healthy. But when things went south for him and his career, that was when the Wizards begin to struggle. That there alone is proof that this team needs to address the point guard position.
They have brought in a lot of rentals and plug and play guys to replace Wall but none of them worked or even lasted long. Ish Smith is a good player that comes to mind. He was a fan favorite because he played hard every night and was truly an underdog. Monte Morris took the throne last season and the fit just didn’t work at all. This season, Tyus Jones is holding down the fort. While he has been solid, it’s really hard to tell if he is moving the needle for the Wizards at the moment. He is probably best suited as a sixth man for the team.
Charlotte Hornets star LaMelo Ball has suffered a serious sprain in his right ankle and is likely to miss extended time, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Tests show Ball avoided a fracture in the ankle, which required surgery last season, and a cautious approach is expected. pic.twitter.com/kciSB72aw9

When a player is hit with injuries year after year, their trade value goes down and their team loses patience with them as well. The team may want to move off from a player simply due to the fact that they feel like they’re getting the short end of the stick. They may even feel as if they wasted their draft pick as well. The Charlotte Hornets took LaMelo Ball in 2020 NBA Draft with the number three overall pick. He certainly was the best pick to them as he went on to win Rookie of the Year. He was named an All Star in 2022 and has really taken his game to the next level. He originally was a good passer and floor general. He saw the floor well and always ran the break well too. Now he has become a scorer. He has made himself one of the best point guards in the league.

The only thing that has hurt him is injuries, no pun intended. He has had a hard time staying healthy over the years and honestly, it has simply been unfortunate injuries. It hasn’t been anything major. He seems to be doing too much. He is relied upon heavily for everything with the Hornets. If he didn’t have to do so much, he probably would stay healthy for the majority of each season.

The Wizards should monitor his situation in Charlotte with the Hornets. Are the Hornets growing impatient with their All Star point guard from his injuries? Is the clock ticking on LaMelo Ball? The Wizards have a good amount of draft picks. It will be interesting what the asking price would be for LaMelo Ball as he would be a great fit in Washington with the Wizards.
