George Kittle’s Projected 49ers Week 1 Return Is Starting to Look Realistic

In this story:
It's seven months to the very day that San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle suffered an Achilles injury against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Injury-wise, this was by far the biggest of his career, and it marked a brutal end to the season, during which he missed six games due to a fully torn hamstring.
So, 2025 wasn't smooth sailing even though he propped up good numbers. It ended in devastating circumstances, but an offseason rehab regimen has made it look increasingly possible that he might return for Week 1.
The chances of George Kittle's Week 1 return look increasingly possible

Throughout the offseason, Kittle has insisted time and time again that he will be ready to go for Week 1 in Australia.
In February, it was extremely hard to believe. He had surgery, and normally, Achilles injuries take 9-12 months to recover from and sometimes players just aren't the same after it. It's a tough injury to fully recover from.
It was still hard to believe in the months that followed, but Kittle clearly looked ahead of schedule. Now at training camp, he is running routes, catching passes and reportedly doing some conditioning .

This video from Monday's training camp tells you everything you need to know about Kittle's current fitness.
I'm not a doctor, but I think everyone can agree that it's simply incredible to see just how far ahead he is.
There's one more month until the season opener and a possible return feels even more likely. The 49ers feel as though he could feature and these conversations must now be taken seriously.
And the impact of his return would be a huge boost for San Francisco. Injuries are beginning to pile up, especially at running back, where the 49ers are dealing with several concerns. Christian McCaffrey was also missing, although the extent of his injury remains unclear and his absence could simply have been a day off.
Ricky Pearsall is out for the entire season after his PCL issues resurfaced, leading to surgery. Christian Kirk and Mike Evans are also listed as questionable.
Kittle's accelerated progress will be such a huge boost if he is ready to go for the season opener. His unwavering dedication to making his return just eight months after suffering the injury is simply remarkable.
He dubbed the season opener in Australia a "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," and he's doing everything possible to make sure he's back for it.
