In this story:

Even if he is 33 years old and no longer in his prime, the San Francisco 49ers having Mike Evans on their roster is a sight to behold.

It always felt like he was going to stay with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers his whole career. But he chose to join San Francisco for less money.

Already, upon hearing that, his motivation is clearly about winning and not about the digits increasing in his checking account. But financial deals aside, Evans has shown in a completely different way what a future first-ballot Hall of Famer wide receiver adds to the locker room.

Mike Evans not only plays through injury, but excels

The 49ers, at least in the Kyle Shanahan era, have had their fair share of injury problems. In some cases, players play through the pain, but it's extremely rare for someone to do so and still excel.

Evans embodies the latter. He said that his injury felt like he was stabbed, yet he suited up and delivered arguably his best game with San Francisco so far. Five receptions for 76 yards against a step-up Denver Broncos team was a very good effort.

But there was little chance Evans wasn't going to play in that game. General manager John Lynch shared this week just how determined the wide receiver was to take the field.

“I remember first time in the locker room going down there – you always want to hear it for yourself – and I said, ‘Mike, good news, we’ll have you for Seattle,’” Lynch recalled on KNBR. “And he said, ‘No, I’m playing this week.’ And he said it in a way like he’s playing this week.”

And that speaks volumes. He fits the Kyle Shanahan mould of a player who is not only tough but also intensely focused on winning football matches.

Evans signed a three-year deal in free agency, but even if he's around for just one, the 49ers are incredibly lucky to have a player with his tangible achievements, as well as the drive and willingness to produce at all costs.

Actions speak far louder than words, and Evans has shown exactly what he's willing to put on the line for this team.

I'm no doctor but I advocated for him to be rested, but upon seeing his actions from the last week, it would be far from surprising seeing him gear up for the Seattle Seahawks in Week 5 and deliver yet another good performance,
