While the Chicago Bears' preseason Week 2 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals was disappointing, the good news is Chicago didn't see any injuries to key players.

That was a major concern going into the contest after the Bears decided to play many of their ones. By all accounts, none of the starters came down with an issue during the contest.

However, the Bears didn't go totally unscathed, as linebacker Nephi Sewell suffered a knee injury that required him to be carted off the field. The severity of the injury isn't known yet, but it does not look good initially considering the cart had to come out.

"We had one individual that didn't finish the game and that was Nephi (Sewell) with a knee, so we'll get more information when we get back there to Halas (Hall)," head coach Ben Johnson said.

Sewell was on the roster bubble and wasn't likely to make the roster, but he did have a chance to make the practice squad.

Encouraging news for Jaylon Jones, Luke Newman

Both offensive lineman Luke Newman and cornerback Jaylon Jones have been sidelined at practice, with Jones specifically being out since he left the eighth practice of training camp because of an injury.

In what is encouraging news for both players, Jones and Newman were spotted doing some work on the field prior to kickoff on Saturday night, which shows they're progressing.

"Bears G/C Luke Newman (foot) and CB Jaylon Jones (ankle) both got very early work in on the field at Paycor Stadium with athletic trainers. Signs thay they're moving toward a return to availability," Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reported.

Jones' status is particularly important with the Bears having been hit with plenty of injuries in the secondary, including at slot cornerback, where Kyler Gordon's status is up in the air.

Jones was primed to be the first man up if Gordon remains out through the start of the season after seeing the majority of reps with the ones at slot cornerback in practice once safety Cam Lewis moved into safety Coby Bryant's spot after his injury.

Since Jones has been out, the Bears have been getting an extended look at rookie cornerback Malik Muhammad, and Muhammad has played well for the most part.

Whether or not the rookie will be ready for primetime if he's thrust into the starting role come Week 1 remains to be seen, which is why Jones' status is important.
