The Chicago Bears have an injury concern with linebacker Nephi Sewell in the first half of the preseason Week 2 game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Sewell suffered an apparent right leg injury in the second quarter of the game and had to be carted off the field.

Nephi Sewell injury update

As previously noted, Sewell had to be loaded onto a cart and was taken off the field.

The Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs reported that it appeared to be a right knee/leg injury for Sewell.

"Cart is coming out to assist LB Nephi Sewell," Biggs wrote. "They looked at his right knee/leg."

We'll update this page once more information is known.

This is the second injury Sewell has suffered in the preseason, as he exited last week's game early and was placed into the concussion protocol.

Sewell went undrafted out of Utah in 2022 and was initially signed by the New Orleans Saints and ended up spending the first four seasons of his career there.

In 30 games in New Orleans, Sewell tallied 26 tackles, four tackles for loss, one sack and one QB hit while playing mostly on special teams.

After Sewell was cut loose by the Saints in January of this year, the Bears scooped him up on the practice squad and later signed him to a futures contract to add him to the offseason roster.

Sewell has been battling for a backup spot on the Bears' 53-man roster but was more likely to land on the practice squad.

Sewell is the brother of Detroit Lions offensive tackle Penei Sewell and Bears linebacker Noah Sewell, who is currently on the PUP list while he works his way back from a torn Achilles suffered last season.
