Irv Smith Jr.'s Contract Details With Cincinnati Bengals Revealed

CINCINNATI — Numbers are out on Irv Smith Jr.'s one-year deal with the Bengals.

The 24-year-old is on a one-year deal worth $1.75 million.

Field Yates reports he can make as much as $2 million. The guarantees make Smith the NFL's 37th-highest-paid tight end heading into next season.

Smith turned down an offer from the Dolphins and it's hard to imagine Miami offered less than he got in The Jungle.

It's great value for the Bengals if he plays six games or 16. It's a very low-risk move that gives Cincinnati flexibility to add a tight end at any point in the draft. They now don't have to reach on an early tight end.

It will be interesting to see if Cincinnati brings back Drew Sample or Mitch Wilcox for more depth. Smith was cheap for a very specific reason: he's played in 37 regular-season games since entering the league in 2019.
