Joseph Ossai on How 2022 Season Ended: 'We Lost, That's Motivation Enough'
CINCINNATI — Joseph Ossai and the rest of the Bengals roster are flipping the page on the AFC Championship game loss last season.
The young edge rusher hit Patrick Mahomes late on the final drive of the game to set up the winning field goal.
That play matters less than the loss to Ossai.
"Not that play, but just losing in general, because as I was saying earlier, what I did before doesn't matter," Ossai said. "What I did during the play, it doesn't matter. What matters is, did we win or lose? And we lost, so that's motivation enough, not the fact that I messed it up. Obviously, that's extra motivation, but we lost that game. And that's motivation enough we need to get back there. We will get back there. I have full confidence in our potential, in this team's potential. We're gonna be great. We're gonna be dope."
Our own James Rapien asked Ossai how he's feeling following off-season shoulder surgery.
"Health-wise, I'm feeling good," Ossai confirmed. "Rehab's going great. Everything's going good."
Ossai did not grade out well on PFF last season. He tallied a 55.3 overall mark (62.6 pass rush, 46.7 run defense). Some decent health luck could turn those figures around in 2023.
