Zac Taylor and Lou Anarumo Discuss Bengals' Decision to Take Myles Murphy in First Round
CINCINNATI — The Bengals selected Clemson defensive end Myles Murphy on Thursday night in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Murphy, 21, finished his college career with 139 tackles (37 for loss), 17.5 sacks and six forced fumbles in three seasons at Clemson.
"We had a high degree of confidence that if he was there we were going to take him," head coach Zac Taylor said.
Murphy is expected to be an instant contributor on defense alongside Trey Hendrickson and Sam Hubbard.
"Getting a guy that brings position flex. He can rush from different spots," defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo said. "He'll be in the rotation right away. He'll just right in there and back up Sam and Trey."
Anarumo praised Murphy's consistency and production. He also tested like an elite athlete during the pre-draft process, finishing in the 97th percentile among defensive ends since 1987 according to RAS.Football.
