Myles Murphy Reacts After Being Taken By Bengals in First Round of 2023 NFL Draft

Cincinnati took the Clemson edge rusher with the 28th overall pick.

CINCINNATI — The Bengals took Clemson defensive end Myles Murphy with the 28th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

"Honestly, just a blessing. I just want to play football," Murphy said minutes after being picked. "Blessed to be taken at whatever number, wherever. I just want to play football right now."

The 21-year-old compiled 139 tackles (37 for loss), 17.5 sacks and six forced fumbles in three seasons at Clemson.

What does he do best?

"Getting after the quarterback, playing with energy, making plays that people don't think I'm gonna make," Murphy said. "Gonna get after the quarterback, gonna get after the run and be a dominant player."

The Bengals brought Murphy in for a visit earlier this month.

"I had a good feeling that they liked me," he said. "When I was there I loved the city, loved the coaches. I felt comfortable when I was there the whole time."

Murphy says he tries to emulate Browns star pass rusher Myles Garrett.

"Similar playing styles, rushing style. I just mimic my style after him."

The Bengals are hoping he gives their pass rush an instant boost this season and he can be a core piece of their defense moving forward.
