Tee Higgins on Contract Extension: 'When It Comes, It Comes'

The wide receiver is still getting voluntary work in with the Bengals.

CINCINNATI — Tee Higgins continues to show he's a team player after attending this week's voluntary workouts in Cincinnati. The wide receiver even spoke with the media while his contract extension gets hashed out.

"I'm not going to rush things like that. When it comes, it comes," Higgins told the media on Tuesday.

That extension was rumored to have been done earlier this offseason, a rumor Higgins had to debunk for his mom.

"Yeah, I had a lot of people texting me, man. But I didn’t text them back. I knew there wasn’t nothing there," Higgins told the media when asked about the rumors. "My mom texted me and was like, 'You got a deal done, son?' I was like, 'Mom, if I had a deal done you'd be the first to know.'"

After consecutive 1,000-plus yard seasons with six-plus touchdowns, Higgins has solidified his status as a No. 1-caliber wide receiver. That's despite a heavy target share for Ja'Marr Chase. Hard work has a lot to do with those results for Higgins, who was eager to get back on the field with his teammates.

“I love the game, man," Higgins told reporters. "I wanted to come in and work. I live here in Cincinnati. Why not come in and work out? For free? End of the day, I’m just here to get my work in.”

The new No. 5 is right at home in the 513, and fans are hoping it stays his home for the better part of this decade.
