Browns Officially Reinstate White Facemasks As Part Of Primary Uniform

After weeks of rumors, the Browns revealed a new logo and helmet featuring a white facemask

White facemasks are back.

Following weeks of speculation that the Browns were going through the process of submitting a new uniform and logo design to the NFL, the franchise officially unveiled a return to the classic look via social media on Wednesday.

“We are excited to honor our storied history through the return of the white facemask,” Cleveland Browns Partner JW Johnson said through the team's website. “As we continue to write the next chapter of Browns’ history, we reflect on different eras, such as the Kardiac Kids and the return of the franchise, that led us to this place in time.”

The move back to white masks marks the third time the franchise has featured the look as part of its primary uniform. Initially, the team wore grey facemasks from their founding in 1944 until 1975, the first time they introduced white. Those white masks remained until the team was moved to Baltimore in 1995 and returned when the team was reinstated in 1999.

Seven years later though, in 2006, they team reverted back to grey masks up until 2015 when brown facemasks were introduced for the first time.

Momentum behind bringing back white masks actually started several years ago. The Browns brought the look back as part of an alternate option that the team wore for two games over the last two seasons. Fans were quick to express their love for the style on social media to the point where Johnson felt the need to chime in on the subject back in 2022 and urged the Cleveland faithful to be patient.

Now that they've gone through the proper channels to make the changes, that patience has paid off. Johnson was happy to deliver the updated look to the fans.

“We heard our loyal fans and are thrilled to see the white facemask featured on the Browns’ helmets beginning with the 2024 season and beyond as we continue to write the history of our franchise,” Johnson said.
