Browns HC Kevin Stefanski Addresses Thought of Adding WR DeAndre Hopkins

With DeAndre Hopkins set to hit the free agency market, the Cleveland Browns have been one team rumored to be interested.

Former Arizona Cardinals wideout DeAndre Hopkins is set to officially hit the free agent market today after being waived last week. The Cleveland Browns are a team that has been rumored to be in the mix for Hopkins due to Deshaun Watson being at the helm in Cleveland. The two spent multiple seasons together with the Houston Texans organization and have had some of their best years together.

The rumors got to Cleveland’s head coach quickly, surely, and he faced a question about it on Tuesday

“I really, really like our wide receiver room,” Stefanski said, via Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. “I love the guys that are in there. Andrew and his crew are always looking at every avenue, so I won’t comment specifically on the player other than to say that I really like our roster.”

Stefanski’s job is to coach, not to bring in free agents so he sort of deflected it as expected. GM Andrew Berry would be the one to look at the possibility and he likely will because doing due diligence is a must in this game. Stefanski praising his own room is the right thing to do here, since he can’t technically talk about the player as he’s not a free agent yet, per league transactions.

Cleveland is not thin at wide receiver by no means. They added rookie Cedric Tillman and traded for the talented Elijah Moore. Amari Cooper and Donovan Peoples-Jones already lead the room with second-year guy David Bell ready to take a step.

Hopkins will likely find his new team soon, now that he is officially a free agent. The former All-Pro and Pro Bowl-level player should be able to at least command the money that Odell Beckham Jr. got from the Baltimore Ravens, which was a one-year deal worth $15 million.

Cleveland will continue to look at any possibility to improve their roster as they hope to make some noise in 2023 and that may or may not include Hopkins.
