Former Browns TE Heading to Chicago Bears

Stephen Carlson is set to have a new opportunity in the NFL.

One former member of the Cleveland Browns is landing with a new team. Tight end Stephen Carlson is heading to the Chicago Bears on a one-year deal, per a report. Carlson spent two seasons with the Browns.

Between the 2019-20 seasons, Carlson played in a total of 25 games for the Browns. During that time, Carlson made seven total starts. More of a blocking tight end with the Browns, Carlson caught six passes between the two seasons, five of those came in 2019 when he had 51 receiving yards. Carlson caught one touchdown from Baker Mayfield in 2019.

Carlson is a 6-foot-4, 240-pound former Princeton football player. While at Princeton, Carlson was listed as a wideout and had his best season in 2017 when he caught 71 passes for 935 receiving yards.

Now, Carlson will look to be another option for the growing Justin Fields in Chicago. The tight end room includes; Cole Kmet, Robert Tonyan, Jake Tonges, Chase Allen, and Damien Caffrey.

From being the Browns’ third tight end option when he was with them, Carlson may have a chance to show more in Chicago now.
