SI Predicts Three Browns Related Things for 2023 Season

The Cleveland Browns 2023 season could be a good one if these predictions become reality.

Ahead of the 2023 season, Sports Illustrated has made multiple Cleveland Browns-related predictions. Each prediction would be a good thing for the Browns and would ultimately help them compete.

  • Deshaun Watson will finish with career-highs in rushing yards and touchdowns
  • Browns will sign DeAndre Hopkins
  • Myles Garrett will win DPOY

To this point in his career, Watson’s career-high rushing total was 551 in 2018, when he also ran for five touchdowns. He did eclipse that touchdown number the following year when he ran in seven of them. The Browns hope to spread the offense out more and it’ll help get the playmaker’s opportunities. With Nick Chubb in the backfield and not splitting touches with Kareem Hunt, defenses will have to account for one of the league’s best backs as often as ever.

Watson will surely run for 400+ yards in 2023, it will be interesting to see if he can top his career-high from 2018.

Cleveland continues to be in the mix for Hopkins’ services out wide. It makes sense in some points but in others, it does not. One of the clear reasons they have to at least think about it is the fact that their franchise quarterback is lobbying for him. Hopkins market continues to heat up and the Browns could be the spot. If they’re not, that’s fine too.

Garrett has played at a Defensive Player of the Year level for the majority of his career. Often, winning factors in and the Browns haven’t really been a winning team besides 2020 when they defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers in the wildcard round. You can’t shy away from the fact that Garrett is set to play for the best Browns team he has yet this season and that could benefit him immensely.

Cleveland went out and added Za’Darius Smith and Ogbonnia Okoronkwo on the edge to help take some of the pressure off of him, which should only force teams to double-team him less. The Browns also went and added inside help with Dalvin Tomlinson, Sika Ika, Maurice Hurst, and Trysten Hill. The improvements around him will only help his case.

Garrett has had 16 sacks for two seasons in a row now, which is his career-high. This may be the season where he records 17+ sacks and five forced fumbles at least, those numbers should be good enough to win the award if the Browns are a good team.

Through three seasons, Garrett has 74.5 sacks and is well on his way to Canton. This may be the best year to add the DPOY by his name.
