Cardinals Receive Rave Reviews for Paris Johnson Selection

Paris Johnson Jr. is an Arizona Cardinal, and many believe the team did good on their first-round pick.

The Arizona Cardinals have their new offensive lineman of the future.

After trading out of No. 3 back to No. 12, the Cardinals moved up six spots to secure who many believe to be the draft's best offensive lineman in Ohio State's Paris Johnson Jr. - who can play multiple positions along the offensive line.

The pick received rave reviews:

PFF: Good

"After moving down from No. 3, the Cardinals move back up and select their left tackle in Paris Johnson Jr. He ticks all the boxes physically, coming in at 6-foot-6 and 310 pounds, and he allowed just 14 total pressures from 449 pass-blocking snaps last season, the best of his career. The wheeling and dealing by Arizona just makes this that much better."

NFL.com: A

"The Cardinals wanted to trade out of the No. 3 overall, and that's what they did, moving down nine spots in a deal with the Texans. They then traded back up with the Lions, jumping from No. 12 to No. 6 for Johnson, whose experience playing both guard and tackle means he can step in at right tackle. His powerful blocking up front will help protect Kyler Murray and boost the run game. The net effect of the two trades is the Cardinals picked up a 2024 first-round pick and still landed the player at No. 6 they presumably wanted all along."

CBS Sports: B

"He's the best tackle in this class, but is he elite? Plus where do they play him? They have a left tackle in D.J. Humphries, so maybe he plays right tackle or inside at guard. Good player."

Bleacher Report: A

"After trading down from the third overall pick, the Cardinals felt compelled to trade back to the sixth overall pick and surrendered this year's 34th overall pick to get a deal done. Essentially, they moved down three slots and still added future first- and third-round selections.

"What Arizona just pulled off is called manipulating the draft to your liking, and it did so by adding valuable future assets and getting the top-rated tackle prospect in this class.

"New general manager Monti Ossenfort is dealing in his first draft leading the franchise."

ESPN: Almost Mega Winners

"I wanted to put Arizona in the "winners" category after it added a super valuable 2024 first-round pick from Houston, but then it went and moved up six spots with Detroit, giving away No. 34 overall. Paris Johnson Jr. (No. 6 overall) is my top-ranked offensive tackle, and he'll be great there. But I can't put the Cardinals as a clear winner."
