Cardinals Reportedly Adding Defensive Assistant

The Arizona Cardinals are reportedly adding Florida Gators co-DC Patrick Toney as a defensive assistant on their staff.

The Arizona Cardinals have slowly begun to add to their staff under head coach Jonathan Gannon. We're nearly a full seven days after Gannon was introduced by the team last Thursday, and thus far we have the following staff:

Head Coach: Jonathan Gannon

Offensive Coordinator: Drew Petzing

- OL Coach Klayton Adams

- WR or Passing Game Coordinator Drew Terrell

- QB Coach Israel Woolfork

Defensive Coordinator: Nick Rallis

Special Teams Coordinator: Jeff Rodgers

Thus far, only Petzing/Rallis/Rodgers have been officially confirmed by the team.

ESPN's Chris Low reports that the Cardinals are currently in negotiations to add Florida Gators co-defensive coordinator Patrick Toney to the staff.

Toney (32-years-old) has spent his entire coaching career in the college ranks. He first got his start with Southeastern Louisiana in 2012 as a defensive assistant before other stops at Sam Houston State, UTSA, Louisiana and Florida last season. His defensive coordinator experience dates back to 2020.

With Gannon and Rallis already on staff, Toney doesn't figure to factor much into the grand picture in Arizona's defense, though his experience coaching the secondary and mold of fitting the Cardinals' desire for a youth movement in Arizona bodes well for the staff.
