Chargers News: Colin Cowherd Explains What LA Must Do To Get To Next Level

In this story:
Thus far, your Los Angeles Chargers' 2023 season has not panned out as many had hoped. The Bolts were supposed to be Super Bowl contenders; instead, we question whether they'll make the playoffs. The club currently sports a 4-5 record. The Chargers were supposed to be elite on offense; things are clicking on that side of the ball. However, the defense, oh, the defense.
This season, that side of the ball was supposed to do wonders. All-Pro and Pro Bowl talents and complementary pieces are all over the field for LA. However, through nine games, the Bolts' defense is repugnant. They are among the bottom half of many major categories.
LA's defense ranks 24th in opponent points per game, 31st in opponent yards per game, 29th in opponent yards per play, and 30th in opponent yards per pass. Nothing seems to be going right for the Bolts on defense, which is why FS1 analyst Colin Cowherd advocates for the Chargers to let go of head coach Brandon Staley.
"The Chargers are 4-5, with this left tackle, this quarterback, Keenan Allen, three pass rushers, I mean, they check the boxes, you can't be 4-5. The offense had five touchdowns on their last fives drives and lost; that's about the defensive head coach. At least now he's acknowledging he's at fault."
"What are yoy waiting for? Three years, defensive coach, defense is worse now than it's ever been. What are you waiting for? Am i getting improvement, it's not the talent. At some point, come on."
(Per Colin Cowherd)
Is it time to cut ties with Staley? I know many Charger fans would agree with Cowherd's rant, and it's hard to disagree with him.
The Bolts' defense has worsened since the arrival of the "defensive specialist." At a certain point, it shouldn't take a lot to figure out the issue, and when it comes to the Chargers' struggles on defense, it's obvious it is Staley.
It's also bizarre to witness when you consider that he led the 2020 Los Angeles Rams defense as their defensive coordinator. Maybe he isn't to be a franchise's head coach yet. We don't know what it is, but one thing is for sure: if LA wants to compete at a high level for years, Staley doesn't appear to be the right guy to lead them.
It's not a question of if but when the Chargers decide to call it quits with the 40-year-old head coach.
