Chargers News: Expert Projects LA Will Add Size With Fifth Pick In Draft

In this story:
The Los Angeles Chargers might have one of the worst cap situations in the league, as they are currently around $40 million over the cap. However, they do have seven picks in the draft, along with a #5 selection.
The Bolts could use their seven picks to bring in some young talent to boost the many holes the team has. They might also trade down to secure even more draft capital. Either way, early mock drafts have already begun to determine who the Chargers should select.
While the wide receiver unit will need some help with both Keenan Allen and Mike Williams potentially being cap room casualties, the tight end position also needs some deep help. Dane Brugler of The Atheltic proposes that the Chargers take TE Brock Bowers from Georgia at their #5 position.
🚨Mock Draft 2.0 - Two rounder 🚨

- New QB-WR connection for Atlanta
- Patriots get a QB (not in the 1st round)
- Tony Pollard replacement in Dallas
- Eagles go back-7 on defense three times
- 11 WRs!https://t.co/PraLaQOprP
The Chargers have done their best with the TE position but like many units on the team—the unit was hit with multiple injuries.
Gerald Everett is the best option, but he dealt with multiple injuries last season, keeping him out of two games.
Donald Parnham is the second-best option for the Chargers, but he was far more heavily injured than Everett.
Stone Smartt and Nick Vannett are the other two TEs on the team. Smartt showcased some skill in the final stretch of the season, and he will need to expand on that in training camp and the offseason to become a viable TE1 for the Chargers.
Vannett is a bit of an afterthought in the grand scheme of things.
The Chargers flourish when Herbert has a reliable TE to throw to, and Brock Bowers could be that player.
