Chargers News: GM Tom Telesco has Eyes Set on Conquering Division Rival

Ahead of Justin Herbert signing one of the biggest contract extensions in NFL history, two things have to got to be on his mind.

The first is without a doubt bringing a Super Bowl to the city of Los Angeles. He's in a perfect position to do and win all of the fans that reside here over. The Rams did so two seasons ago yet now find themselves rebuilding. The type of contract Herbert will get is not one the front office is passing over and asking for a playoff berth again.. the expectations are clear.

Next up, he has to want to stake the claim of best quarterback in the league. He is about enter his fourth season and that means the label of rising superstar needs to lose the first part. While he may not have his running mate Austin Ekeler in 2023, he has many other serviceable options.

For all of these reasons, Chargers GM Tom Telesco explained why the biggest roadblock to the promised land for his franchise involves the Kansas City Chiefs.

"You like to be a little bit more on the offensive and ‘Hey, this is how we're going to play and this is how teams have to stop us,’” said Telesco, “But you can't help but to see the Super Bowl champions in our division. We have to beat them."

"You start with your division because you play those guys six times a year, maybe more in the playoffs,” Staley said. “But I think you, you always have to look within your team, how you want your team to look."

Remember those two goals I mentioned for Herbert and the Chargers earlier? Well, the Kansas City Chiefs already have completed both of them. They are coming off of a Super Bowl championship season and they boast the best quarterback in the league currently with Patrick Mahomes.

Nobody doubts the potential of Herbert or even the Chargers. A new offensive coordinator with Kellen Moore means new schemes and approaches to games. These matchups with KC will be very fun.
