NFL Legend Gives Exclusive Insight on Keenan Allen's 2025 Season, Future and Career

The Los Angeles Chargers have found themselves questioning their receiver room going into 2026, with the newest hirings of Mike McDaniel and the reported interest in free agent additions in Rashid Shaheed and Alec Pierce.
One name that has been floated often is Keenan Allen, the Chargers legend who just put up good numbers in a bad Greg Roman offense. Nobody knows what it is like to play receiver in the Greg Roman offense better than former Charger wide receiver Stevie Johnson, who had Roman as his offensive coordinator in 2014.
Johnson had an exclusive interview with Casino.org, and Kyle Odegard, who has given me permission to discuss the quotes by Johnson in regard to the Chargers and Allen.
Stevie Johnson Says Keenan Allen is like Jerry Rice
Johnson saw Allen up close in 2015 when they crossed career paths in San Diego. Johnson had 45 catches for 497 yards and three touchdowns, having it be the final season of his career. Alongside him, Allen had 67 catches for 725 yards and four touchdowns, doing so in only eight games.
This duo grew close, with Johnson praising Allen by saying:
“He was always on his iPad or asking other receivers what they were thinking. He wasn’t necessarily a space creator type. He was more of a technician, like Jerry Rice. Then he added some of those moves in because he was such a student of the game, to mix up his route combinations. I knew he was special.”
Keenan Allen's 2025 Season 'Could Have Been More Productive', According to NFL Legend

Keenan Allen had a successful 2025 season by many accounts, with many considering his age and role as secondary to what it once was. Allen shared targets with Ladd McConkey, Oronde Gadsden and Quentin Johnston, being more of the reliable veteran option. These shared targets at age 33, impressed Johnson, with him claiming that his season could have been even more productive.
Odegard's article had this back and forth regarding the above subject: “He knows the holes and he’s seen every defense. That’s why he can get over 700 yards at 33. And beyond.”Johnson thinks Allen would have been even more productive with a different offensive coordinator at the helm. “Greg Roman isn’t pass-heavy,” Johnson said. 'He didn’t even utilize Keenan correctly, I would say. I’ve been in a Greg Roman offense. Keenan should’ve had over 1,000 yards and they should have dominated that playoff game. They were doing a lot of extra other stuff.'"
Keenan Allen's 2026 Season Outlook and Future
Allen, being one of the team's all time greats and current fan favorites, many have discussed what the chances are that he returns to Los Angeles for one more go around. Even Allen himself has hinted that he only wants to return to the Bolts for his 2026 future.
Johnson's predictions also had the idea of Allen going to cross-town rivals, the Rams, as well. "He loves L.A., so I could see him staying with Mike McDaniel, a smart offensive mind...But I also think he’s connected with Davante (Adams). I don’t think he’d mind going to the Rams, playing with them for a year and possibly getting to the Super Bowl, still in L.A.”
As Chargers fans, the ultimate goal would be to see Allen in a Super Bowl, preferably in Powder Blue at the end of the 2026 season.
