Amik Robertson Remembers Jayden Daniels Being a ‘Headache’ for Lions — Commanders Daily

In this story:

For Amik Robertson, returning to Detroit on Saturday brings mixed emotions, but he has a much different perspective heading back there with Jayden Daniels as a teammate, rather than an opponent. Robertson was part of the 2024 Lions defense that faced Daniels in Washington's divisional-round game that the Commanders won by two touchdowns. When Robertson was asked what he remembered most about preparing for Daniels, his response was direct: "F****ng Headache."
"A f****ng headache. It was a headache, bro. A quarterback that young, of course, we saw what he did at LSU. I'm a Louisiana guy. I watch LSU. But to see him do that at the next level, you're not surprised, but you're like, ‘Wow,’ right? You're like, man, to see he's that young, to be able to go out there and be able to see the game, slow the game down," Robertson said. "For a rookie, it's not too many quarterbacks that can come out there and do that. And just watching tape on him, we game-planned for him the whole week. I mean, it didn't work, but we game-planned for him the whole week, man. And he was at the biggest stage, and he was able to be successful. Like I tell everybody, I'm just glad I'm on this team now."

Now, after spending an entire training camp watching him work, Robertson believes that Daniels' desire to be perfect is one of the traits behind what Detroit experienced firsthand in the playoffs. Robertson used Daniels' lone interception in camp to make his point more clear, saying Daniels was visibly frustrated after throwing the pick because of the standard he holds himself to.
"But he was hot about that. But that just goes to show you how he attacks his work each and every day," said Robertson. "He wants to be perfect. He wants to be the best. He feels like when he makes a mistake, he let the team down. But of course, he's not letting us down. We're always rooting for him. We're always going to run through a wall for him as well. But that just shows you how much he wants to be great." These days, it's no longer Robertson's job to solve the problems Daniels presents, and he gets to watch the quarterback progress through his habits daily.
Robertson credits the Lions with helping him rediscover himself as a player and putting him on a larger stage, but understands he wears Burgundy and Gold now. "When I think about it, Detroit was a team that really helped me find myself again, right? A team that believed in me, a team that put me on a bigger stage and believed in me." Saturday will mark an odd full-circle moment for Amik Robertson as he returns to Detroit alongside the quarterback who once gave his former defense a "f****ng headache."
Laremy Tunsil Earns NFLPA Community MVP Honor
Laremy Tunsil may not be a participant in Saturday's game while he recovers from a triceps injury, but that did not stop him from receiving recognition from the NFLPA, which named Tunsil its offseason Community MVP Friday for his annual Single Mothers’ Wellness Event through Divine Tree. The event was designed to give single mothers a day focused entirely on their own well-being, including a styling suite, relaxation lounge, guided yoga, and wellness and beauty gifts. While Washington waits to get its starting left tackle back on the field, Tunsil’s latest recognition highlights the impact he continues making away from it.
Wishing this week’s offseason #CMVP, @kingtunsil78, a quick recovery 🙏
