Miami Dolphins NFL Draft Live Blog: Day 2

It's Day 2 of the 2020 NFL Draft, and the Miami Dolphins again will be one of the focal points.

Rounds 2 and 3 will take place Friday beginning at 7 p.m. Eastern time.

As we chronicled before, the Dolphins will become only the eighth team since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger to have five picks in the first two rounds and they also will have six picks in the first three rounds for the first time in franchise history — provided they don't trade away some of those picks.

After selecting Tua Tagovailoa, Austin Jackson and Noah Igbinoghene in the first round, the Dolphins will enter Round 2 with their most pressing needs at safety, running back and edge rusher. The next tier of needs likely involves tight end, the offensive line and perhaps wide receiver.

The Dolphins will have the seventh and 24th picks of the second round, the 39th and 56th overall. The latter came from the New Orleans Saints as the result of a 2019 draft-day swap involving picks.

The Dolphins will have the sixth pick of the third round, which will be the 70th overall.

Several top prospects remain available after Round 1, and SI.com draft analyst Kevin Hanson projected the Dolphins' Day 2 picks to be Georgia running back D'Andre Swift, University of Minnesota safety Antoine Winfield Jr., and Florida defensive end Jonathan Greenard.

ESPN insider Adam Schefter points out he's been told this is a very deep draft, which obviously benefits teams with multiple picks — like the Dolphins.

With 12 more picks in the 2020 NFL draft, don't be surprised for one second if the Dolphins look to move one or more of those picks, perhaps to acquire more draft capital in 2021 or maybe to move up this year if there's a player they really target.

It actually could be any of the remaining picks, starting with pick number 39, as pointed out by NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.

Have to think that's it for offensive linemen for a while for the Dolphins. Also pretty much forget about a safety at No. 56. J.K. Dobbins is a possibility if he's still here, or maybe A.J. Epenesa or WR Denzel Mims. Kristian Fulton and Trevon Diggs both were consisered potential first-round picks, but tough to see the Dolphins taking another cornerback.

Will add this: Would not be surprised by a trade there.

Dolphins currently don't have a pick until number 136, which is the 30th pick of the fourth round. That's the pick they got from the Green Bay Packers for moving down from 26th to 30th overall in the first round.

The Dolphins also have the 141st pick, which is one of two compensatory picks for Miami.

Chris Grier says there have not been conversations with Jacksonville about a trade for RB Leonard Fournette.

Chris Grier says Robert Hunt will compete for a job without specifically locking down a position. Says he likes his versatility.

Grier says it was Brandon Jones' whole game that drew the Dolphins to him.

The Dolphins were impressed with Brandon Jones going through the playbook of every team heading to the combine, but they drafted him because he was a good player.
