BREAKING: Falcons Sign Browns Ex LB Tae Davis in Free Agency

The Atlanta Falcons are poised to sign former Cleveland Browns linebacker and special teams player Tae Davis.

Atlanta Falcons general manager Terry Fontenot is still hard at work after an active start to the free agency period.

According to NFL Network, the Falcons have agreed to terms with former Cleveland Browns linebacker Tae Davis.

Undrafted out of Chattanooga in 2018, Davis was signed by the New York Giants and made the team out of camp. He proceeded to start four games and play in 10 others as a rookie.

The following year, Davis was waived by the Giants in late October but quickly joined the Browns, logging 12 tackles between the two teams. Davis stayed with Cleveland through 2020, making 13 appearances and finishing with seven tackles.

Davis, 26, signed with the Houston Texans during free agency in 2021 but spent the season on injured reserve. He re-signed with Houston in 2022 but was waived during training camp.

The 6-1, 224-pound Davis signed with the Las Vegas Raiders the next day but was placed on injured reserve and subsequently released prior to the start of the season.

Prior to Week 13, Davis re-signed with the Browns, joining the practice squad, and was elevated to the active roster on gamedays multiple times before officially joining the 53-man roster before Week 17.

Davis saw action in five games this past season and made five tackles, all on special teams, and didn't record a snap on defense.

Four teams later, Davis is now a Falcon - but what's next?

Looking ahead, Davis will enter offseason programs on the fringe of the roster, but his special teams ability and professional experience should give him a chance to make the roster out of camp, much as he's done in the past.

Further, it should be noted that since Davis isn't expected to be much of an impact player defensively, this move doesn't necessarily mean all hope is gone that the Falcons will bring back linebacker Rashaan Evans, who led the team in tackles last season.

But ultimately, Davis is a proven core special teams asset - and as the Falcons look to keep rounding out their roster, he certainly could become a valuable piece in the game's third phase next season.
