New York Jets Owner Woody Johnson Blasts 'Irresponsible Report' of Argument With Robert Saleh

After a late-night report stated that he and head coach Robert Saleh got into a "heated discussion," New York Jets owner Woody Johnson vehemently denied any such event took place.

Another wrinkle to a chaotic offseason has taken another turn for the New York Jets.

After NFL Network report Colleen Wolfe detailed evidence from an anonymous source that Jets head coach Robert Saleh and owner Woody Johnson got into a "heated discussion" at league meetings in Orlando, the long-time owner cleared the air with an emphatic statement just 24 hours later.

"All this nonsense about a heated argument between Coach Saleh and me at the League Meeting is absolutely false," Johnson said in a tweet. "It is yet another irresponsible report from NFL Network.  Please disregard."

A source within the Jets organization also told Sports Illustrated that no "heated discussion" ever took place.

Wolfe spoke on "Inside the NFL" Wednesday and stated that the topic of the discussion was not know but "It could have been about anything ... it was a little awkward."

Johnson's on-the-record denial of such rumors is an emphatic statement, though certainly changes the story a little. If there really was a discussion that took place, why would Saleh, a head coach on the hot seat even consider getting into an altercation with his boss? The fact that the Jets owner even went on the record is a sign that New York was willing to squash this "report" as quickly as possible.

Regardless of whether or not there was an actual disagreement in Orlando, the Jets have had a tumultuous offseason for an organization that has missed the playoffs in 13 straight seasons but also added some solid pieces in free agency. The Athletic's January report detailed New York as a "dysfunctional mess" with coaches and front office members frustrated over the team's lack of success.

In an offseason full of frustration and anonymous sources, the latest report may not entirely be true, though.
