Why Jets Meeting With Jeremiyah Love Actually Matters

In this story:
The New York Jets already have one of the best running backs in the National Football League Breece Hall. Could they look to add a complement for him early in the 2026 National Football League Draft?
Brian Costello of The New York Post reported that of the prospects the Jets have met with over the last few weeks, one who they had breakfast with was reportedly Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love.
Breaking Down Jets-Jeremiyah Love Meeting Report

Love is an elite prospect in the 2026 National Football League Draft class. ESPN currently has Love ranked as the No. 4 overall prospect in the draft class. Sports Illustrated has him at No. 2 overall in the draft class. Pro Football Focus has him at No. 3.
While this is the case, don't expect to see him come to New York. At least, as of writing, this type of move seems very unlikely. It's still important to take a look at the top prospects out there, though. New York shouldn't leave any stone unturned. Plus, Love is going to be in the NFL next season. Talking to him now, could theoretically help against him on defense in 2026. But more than that, it's important to leave every single option on the table, just in case something pops up.
He's the top running back prospect in the draft class by far after racking up 1,372 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns in 2025 for Notre Dame in 12 games. In 2024, he played in 16 games and had 1,125 rushing yards and 17 rushing scores. He had 28 catches in 2024 and 27 catches in 2025, both for at least 230 or more receiving yards and two or more touchdowns.
Love is a back who is going to help a team from Week 1 and on in 2026. But it would be a pretty big surprise if that team was the Jets. New York has placed the franchise tag on Hall and they aren't expected to trade him at this time. With the other roster holes the team has right now, using the No. 2 pick on a position that is actually already a strength would be a bit backwards. The Jets' biggest roster hole is the pass rush. Arvell Reese has been connected to the Jets heavily and ESPN has him as the No. 1 overall prospect in the draft class. Taking him would be the no-brainer type of move New York needs.
Meeting with Love is the right call, though. New York should be meeting with every single one of the top prospects. Why not? Draft day is crazy and unpredictable. The Jets should be covering every single base. Fernando Mendoza is expected to go No. 1 overall to the Las Vegas Raiders, but the Jets should still try meeting with him too. New York should talk to every top prospect just in case. But, that doesn't mean that Love is likely to come to town, though.
