Todd Wash Leaving Lions to Join Panthers Coaching Staff

Detroit Lions have lost their defensive line coach to the Carolina Panthers.

The Detroit Lions have lost another position coach to the Carolina Panthers.

After Duce Staley decided to accept the position to become the Panthers running backs coach, Lions defensive line coach Todd Wash is reportedly joining him.

According to ESPN, Wash is leaving the coaching staff of Dan Campbell to accept the same position with the Panthers.

Wash, 55, joined Campbell's staff in 2021 following an eight-year stint with the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he also served as their defensive coordinator for five seasons.

Dom Capers was a senior defensive assistant for the Jaguars back in 2019. The experienced defensive coach is now a senior assistant under new defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero.

Detroit's defensive line saw significant improvements in 2022, as the team slightly modified their scheme to more of a 4-3 front.

"We had (Aidan) Hutchinson extremely high in the draft process," Wash said prior to the 2022 season. "We feel he was the most ready to play. We're going to put him at the rush position in our base. Then he can play either defensive end in the sub package.

"We changed a lot of our philosophy up front. It's going to get us more attacking. He's got the ability to play either end spot."
