Raiders RB Ashton Jeanty Leaves Practice With Leg Injury

HENDERSON, Nev.—The Las Vegas Raiders held the first of three practices this week before Thursday night's final preseason game versus the San Francisco 49ers and the end of training camp.

The story, however, turned out to be the kind no one wanted.

Ashton Jeanty Injured

Roughly two-thirds of the way through practice, sophomore RB Ashton Jeanty suffered an injury.

On the play, Jeanty was acting as a pass-catcher and was defended by CB Darien Porter. The ball from Cousins was low, and Jeanty went down for the ball. It did not appear that there was a collision with Porter.

Jeanty appeared unable to put pressure on his right leg as he left, but the indoor facility went silent, and as his teammates saw it, they quickly went down to one knee and were seen praying.

The team has not issued a statement this time, and no other information is available.

Big Plans

The Raiders have enormous plans for Jeanty in the Klint Kubiak system.

Earlier in camp, OC Andrew Janocko said of their plans, "I think he's taking a leadership role, love to see that from him. Love to see him just come with that enthusiasm every day, so we're excited for him and what he brings. And just keep coaching every single rep, getting better, being very deliberate on what we're asking him to do each and every day so we can build on his strengths to put him in a position to be successful."

In His Own Words

Jeanty is having a terrific training camp, and Klint Kubiak wants to use him as a threat not just in the running game, but in the passing game as well.

Thus, he was working on the passing game during the play that led to his injury.

Jeanty said earlier in camp about expanding his role in the passing game, "Yeah, I think it's going to help a lot. That was one thing I worked on this offseason, just getting better at running routes. In this offense, anybody can pretty much do any route. So, the more I continue to do that, I think the more it'll help the team out and help us win."

What This Could Mean Long Term

We have no update on Jeanty, nor any reason to speculate on the severity of the injury.

However, last season, Kubiak won a Super Bowl as the OC of the Seahawks when RB1 went down with an injury, and RB2 Kenneth Walker stepped in and led the Hawks to the title.

Because of situations like that, the Raiders took rookie RB Mike Washington Jr. in the 2026 NFL Draft.

He has had a phenomenal camp.

What the Raiders Think of Washington Jr.

The Raiders loved the young Arkansas Razorback, heaping praise on him as soon as he was selected.

Director of College Scouting Brandon Yeargan raved, "Yeah. I mean, we were excited to get him for sure, 6-1, 225, 4.3, ran for over 1,000 yards this year, super productive, high character. Yeah, we were really excited. We feel like he's a really good fit for Coach [Klint] Kubiak and Andrew’s [Janocko] scheme in the wide zone system. So, pretty fired about him and the person he is too."

VP of Pro Player Personnel Brandon Hunt echoed the praise, "It's awesome. This guy is going to generate explosives for us and just another weapon that's going to add to our offense. And Klint [Kubiak] and [Andrew] Janocko are going to do a great job of utilizing them and help us score the football."
