PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have a new wide receiver target they can approach, and he came at the perfect time. The team is reportedly looking for a wide receiver, and may now be able to avoid a trade and sign a free agent sooner, reuniting him with his former teammate.

Titans Release Tyler Lockett

The Tennessee Titans have granted wide receiver Tyler Lockett the release he was looking for, allowing him to sign elsewhere this season. The 33-year-old signed a one-year deal with the Titans in the offseason, looking to become a reliable weapon for first-round pick Cam Ward, but as the Titans season begins to get worse and worse, Lockett is looking for a competitor.

He's now eligible to sign with a new team after the next roster transaction happens.

Steelers Searching for a Wide Receiver

According to both ESPN's Adam Schefter and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Steelers are once again looking for wide receiver help before the trade deadline. These reports have continued throughout the season, but with just a week left to make a deal with another team, they're on the hunt.

"The Steelers are, once again, in the market for a receiver, sources say," Rapoport wrote. "Their offense has thrived by featuring multiple tight ends, but the addition of a speed threat to pair with DK Metcalf would help Aaron Rodgers and the offense."

Well, their best option may have presented itself.

Tyler Lockett in Pittsburgh?

Lockett makes a ton of sense for the Steelers. They want a speedy wide receiver who can add more value than their current options behind Metcalf and Calvin Austin III. While Scotty Miller and Roman Wilson are hoping to get more looks on offense, the team is making it clear that there's room for a new candidate.

Lockett brings three All-Pros and a Pro Bowl with him to his next team and 8,664 receiving yards. He has a long history with Metcalf, as the two are now in their first year apart since Metcalf was drafted in 2019.

Lockett could be the third option Pittsburgh is looking for, and removes their need to make a move with another team. Really, it's the perfect fit for what the Steelers are looking for and what Lockett likely wants in his next team.

The Steelers want another option to be included in their offense. Lockett would be joining an offense that is clicking, with a quarterback in Aaron Rodgers who has thrown 15 touchdowns and a team that is currently 4-2 and in front of their division.

It sure feels like the Steelers and Lockett are the perfect match once the veteran enters free agency. A move both sides should already be discussing.
